Golf Rules Basics Golf is an elegant sport, but can be quite confusing to people not familiar with it.

The many technical terms and equipment used exclusively for golf can confuse and overwhelm most people. Golf rules and basic forms of golf The basic goal of golf is to put the golf ball into a golf hole.

Sounds simple, no? But there is a lot more to golf rules than that basic goal. A golf game typically consists of 19 golf holes that can be played depending on the course layout. If a golf course has less than 18 holes, extra rounds are played on certain holes until 18 holes have been played.

Golf rules depend on what form of golf is currently being played, with the most basic forms being match play and stroke play.

In match play, players compete 1 vs 1 or in teams, and compete on each golf hole, treating them as separate contests. The party with the better score wins, with tied games being possible. If one team gains an advantage that cannot be overcome, one of the golf rules states that the match is automatically decided in favor of the leading team and ends at that point.

As for stroke play, points scored from each hole are added to a total score. Stroke play matches are typically played during tournaments and by professional golf players. Matches do not end by domination, but are always played for the full 18 holes. Scoring system golf rules Contrary to most sports, golf rules determine that the player or team with the lowest score wins the match.
